Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Tyler C — 27 Dec 2011
Terry Gilliam is the only director in the world who could have pulled this adaptation off with such unrelenting style and realism. The closest you can get to an acid trip without actually doing it.
Depp's portrail of the great Hunter S. Thompson might be the best performance of his entire career. He is eccentric, vulnerable, insane and quirky all at the same time. Del Toro is also at the top of his game.
The effects and crazy tripping scenes are all executed perfectly. My favorite scene features Depp and Del Toro riding down a long desert road scaring the hell out of Toby Mcguire. A unique film that is not like anything you've ever seen before.
