Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Meredith W — 02 Oct 2012
In this cult movie, Journalist Raoul Duke is given an assignment in Las Vegas reporting on the annual Mint Hotel desert motorcycle race. Along with his morally dubious attorney, he hires a convertible, fills the trunk with drugs and embarks on a mind-bending trip of all trips.
What follows is a surreal but fun ride, almost cartoonlike in its visual carnage and frenetic timing. Depp and del Toro are a hilarious double act. Based on the novel by Hunter S Thomson, this film is a roller coaster ride of drugs, drugs and drugs.
Johnny Depp is at his very best as Duke.
