Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Dann M — 29 Jul 2013
The cult film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a dark comedy from writer/director Terry Gilliam that's overly bizarre and incoherent. Two hippies, a journalist and a lawyer, go to Vas Vegas where they get stoned, tear up hotels, and roust the locals.
Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro lead the cast and give some really interesting performances. However, the story goes nowhere and doesn't have any point to it; which wouldn't be that bad if it was a fun journey, but it's not.
While there are some entertaining elements and a creative visual style, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ends up being a bad trip.
