Review of Fay Grim (2007) by Olive B — 03 Jul 2007
Very disappointing entry from Hartley.
It starts out rather promising and funny, as some bizarre follow-up to Henry Fool, but soon turns into a completely mediocre (and horribly cheap-looking) espionage movie.
There's just no real heart in it, no "Hal Hartley feeling," to be blunt. Trying something new is often commendable, but not if you do it this badly. At times I even wondered if Hartley was making some kind of weird joke with the grotesquely overused slanted angles and the endless expositonal dialogue, but no.
I guess the joke was on me, sitting through two hours of this, with only a few glimpses of brilliance to keep me warm.
