Review of Fay Grim (2007) by Chris P — 14 Oct 2007
As a long time Hal Hartley fan, it's clear the auteur just isn't up to it anymore. Determined to reinvent film in every way possible, just for the sake of reinvention, Hartley refuses to frame a shot in anything other than a 45 degree angle, has his cast overacting in the extreme, and loses everything that was great about Henry Fool by imposing an unnecessary sequel upon it.
Moments of dry wit notwithstanding, I'm done with this guy and his pretentiousness. Just make a freaking quality film already.
