Review of Fay Grim (2007) by Rachael G — 20 Oct 2007
This is the mind blowing, ten-years later, sequel to Henry Fool, and it is by far the best movie I have seen in a long time. An amazing thing about this film is that it is completely different from its predecessor â?? Henry fool was a dark and brooding psychological drama, and this is a fast paced mystery thriller, yet they fit incredibly well together and complement each other fully to tell an amazing story. Its action packed and weaved with subtle hints of comedy but it still pulls through the grim sad mood from the first movie making this a complex unbelievably good story. The whole movie is shot in Dutch angles â?? which was a brilliant choice, and the score could not fit the mood any better. Hal Hartley has once again proven himself as a genius of filmmaking and storytelling.
The Queen of Indies has done it again, Parker Posey is absolutely amazing. Every character somehow falls in love with her in the course of the movie, and as the film audience its impossible not to. While Henry Fool was about the irony of life and the pain of watching other people have what you want, Fay Grim is about a world full of terrorism and the politics and thoughts of the people organizing and being pulled into it. Its insanely different, yet after watching the movie its impossible to imagine it any other way.
