Review of Fatherland (1994) by Craig E — 29 May 2007
While the film did not do the incredibly inventive and intelligent novel it is based on justice in my opinion, it is still a worthwhile watch. It certainly captures the overall feel of the book and is an interesting cop drama centered around a member of the Nazi SS in a 1960's where Hitler won the war.
If you are going to read the novel, I would suggest watching the film and then reading the novel, as it might be a bit of a letdown the other way around. But, either way, it is a unique movie in many regards and stands as an intriguing drama.
Rutger Hauer certainly captures the main character from the novel perfectly.
