I don't know why "Father of the Bride" was so critically panned. In spite of a couple of over-the-top scenes that seemed like they could have been cut, the film is a great film with a big heart.

Steven Martin plays George Banks, a man who just got done paying for his daughter's wedding, and who is just getting adjusted to the idea of what retirement will be like. Then he gets an unexpected surprise regarding his daughter's pregnancy.

Then another unexpected surprise. I won't spoil the fun. But anyway, an enjoyable film.
