Review of Fatal Attraction (1987) by Jhon E — 09 Oct 2012
Fatal Attraction, this movie seems to be a love hate movie. I want to start by saying this is not as sexually controversial as it has been said. I was expecting a sick sexual porn-like film; I got neither, but a normal film with small amounts of sexuality. This film was fairly good, I was originally giving a rotten, but the plot saved it, so let's find out why.
The plot follows Michael Douglas as he has a one-night stand, well two nights. He then attempts to return to normal life, but his mistress (Glenn Close, a women with a man's name) starts to stalk Douglas and his wife and six year old girl (who I thought was a girl), which he tries his best to protect his family. The mistress, Alex starts by simply calling them, but this little small obsession soon becomes a matter of following them. This soon becomes a struggle for keeping his infidelity under wraps, but escalates to life and death.
The movie was ok it was somewhat trashy. I also thought Anne Archer (Douglas's wife) was one hundred times more attractive then Glenn Close. I realise it is about a new girl, but still...
The acting was good, not fantastic, but Douglas is usually good. Close was great as the psycho, but not quite as effective as say Annie Wilkes by Kathy Bates. The plot carried this movie for me. The rest of the cast were ok. The plot just got better as it went, and showed a potential classic/near-classic; unfortunately, it fails to do so, but it worth watching anyway.
Overall, not a great movie, but the plot is very interesting and makes this film very watchable and ultimately enjoyable. It manages to pullout a descent thriller, especially the end. I would recommend this to thriller lovers, for this has a good plot. It is not exactly a horrible film, it is just a little flat and trashy, but has good suspense and excellent plot, and very good ending.
