Review of Fatal Attraction (1987) by Bheema D — 24 Sep 2014
Fatal Attraction is a movie that wants us to cheer for a cheater. Fatal Attraction is a movie that wants us to cheer for a lawyer who doesn't know how to get a restraining order. Fatal Attraction wants us to cheer for a protagonist who takes to women beating before taking legal action.
Fatal Attraction wants you to believe that it brought tropes to film, when really it owes it all to Play Misty for Me. Fatal Attraction wants us to believe it has production value or set design when it really has every other aesthetic in the 1980s.
Fatal Attraction wants us to believe it has a good script. Fatal Attraction wants us to believe that the majority of scenes are important and not filler. Fatal Attraction wants us to believe it has good dialogue.
Fatal Attraction wants us to believe it has taste. Fatal Attraction wants us to believe it has a really talented director. Only that last point is true. This IS very watchable throughout the first hour, but by the time you hit the last 50 minutes, you start to realize you could be spending your time better.
