Review of Fat Girl (2001) by Jessyca F — 09 Mar 2012
I am not a big fan of the ending, as I really dislike sudden closures which have nothing to do whatsoever with the previous plot. "Destiny" solutions feel sloppy and desperate. But in this particular case, I can't think of any other ending, since "closure" is not exactly what Breillat aim for; and it works.
Plus, the final sequence does not, in my opinion, overshadow the film as a whole. A very subtle, emotional, yet cruelly realistic film.
