Review of Fat Girl (2001) by Tristan G — 11 May 2009
French art-house poop. While there is a good movie in here, and certain scenes display that Catherine Breillat definitely has chops as a director, the movie is too in your face with its "themes" for its own good.
The characters are best described as loathsome and transparent. The "shocking" ending is also just random and ultimately meaningless. It's just a vapid experience at the end of the day. It's one of those movies that you can't help but wonder what Criterion was thinking when they decided to release it.
