Review of Fat Albert (2004) by David B — 07 Mar 2010
The things you get roped into with kids. I used to watch the original cartoon as a kid. It seems like a made-for-TV after-school special, but the original cartoon pushed the envelope far better in terms of addressing problems.
The plot ropes in the death of the original real-life inspiration for the character of Fat Albert - and where the film gets all science fiction with Bill Cosby's cameo - and it's a very lame plot development - it does lead to the only cool thing about the film at all: at the very end you see the real-life influences for each of the characters for Fat Albert.
Don't expect Herbie Hancock on the soundtrack this time around.
