Review of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965) by Paula C — 18 Jun 2008
Like a very simple pop song- demands multiple viewings. I thought the score was a little wanting aside from the great themesong. Anyway, its really interesting to watch and try to pinpoint how it's influenced music and other movies. Rob Zombie loves this movie, and the cold blooded killers as protagonists theme he used really well in the Devil's Rejects shows up here. One of the most interesting parts to me is when Varla starts to get outraged that a couple of guys tried to rape a girl, and then backpedals when she considers its the same girl she kidnapped and terrorized.
It also has the kind of campiness that's hard to recreate. There's nothing all that outrageous about the simple plot, and the characters aren't that complex. The movie really hinges on the campy dialogue (which I tend to enjoy) and charismatic actors. They're just wildly charismatic and interesting to watch WHILE having insane bodily proportions-they don't rely on their bodies to gain attention so much as the characters in Russ Meyer's other movies(from what I saw of Vixen and Supervixen) They could teach a lot to the comparably uncharismatic Pam Andersons and Carmen Electras of today.
Also, according to the flickster movie info they're bisexual, but that's only vaguely hinted at if at all.
