Review of Faster (2010) by Corey B — 20 Sep 2011
For a while there, I thought I was genuinely going to love Faster. The three lead characters were better written than most, particularly Billy Bob Thornton's strung out cop who is also trying to be a good dad. Then there was the assassin rich kid who only charges a buck because he wants to push himself to extremes, but isn't sure if he should get married or not.
It's all a lot of fun, and there's a Good, the Bad, and the Ugly-lite vibe going on (helped in no part by a familiar ringtone).
But, unfortunately the movie gets itself tied up in a knot and can't figure out how to end. So, the assassin character ultimately feels like he belongs in another movie. And sadly, in a movie called Faster there isn't one single action scene worth mentioning.
But when it's good, it's good. There's a great little storyline about Billy Bob Thornton's son not being particularly good at baseball (plays much better than it sounds), there's a great scene with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and The Rock even gets a couple good moments when he's not staring intensely.
I was surprised by how good some of the movie was that I was able to forgive how mediocre the other half was.
