People looking for deep characters and a plot for the ages will feel let down and eventually angry at this film but to those aforementioned...why did you watch this? From the previews you can clearly see that this was going to be a no holds barred action movie to restart Dwayne Johnson action movie persona! This movie is pure action with some surprisingly interesting moments. Like when Dwayne walks into a seemingly"next victim's" room and points the gun right in this old ladies face and threatens to shoot her only to later find out that its his own mother!!! This may not be the twist to end all twist but it was clear that he was willing to kill anyone who stood in his way of revenge!! Which is the point of this movie people....REVENGE in all its senselessness..so if you want some sort of Shakespearean revenge story then look elsewhere because this movie is gritty and straight to the point...(like paying for a hooker lol) Take the first scene for example...after getting out of jail Dwayne is told not to get into trouble...picks up a badass ride...walks in a building....pulls out a hand cannon and kills a guys then leaves...all without saying two words!!! There's also a moment of sympathy the viewers are treated to when he visits his ex only to find out she aborted their child...then he(seemingly) kills the club guard...calls his son and tells him he killed him ONLY to hear he survived...goes to the hospital and finishes the job that would make Rambo himself proud!! Once again people..this is not kill bill...this is faster..its gritty and in your face action without kungfu or swords. Afterwards he finds another victim on his list and finds out he's now a pastor which provides us with a shred of the unexpected from Dwayne in this movie....mercy! Its easily the best part of the movie(save for all the juicy violence which I also enjoyed)as he isn't beyond sparing someone who may or may not deserved it depending on the one watching. He's also being hunted by an ego manic viewing life as a challenge but sees the ultimate challenge in dwayne johnson as he admits he is a much better shot than he is and much quick at aiming and shooting and obsesses over seeing mr johnson dead. They also build an interesting character development of the would be assassin by showing his past and why he wants to be challenged.

How about the cop(played by billie bob thorton)? He even has character development but like the assassin its not too deep and distracting for the SELLING POINT of the movie which is senseless revenge. Like transformers...this movie never said or WANTED to be deep but delivered what it promised...lots of action sprinkled with light character development..and small moments of emotion spreaded here and there so if your brain always need to be stimulated with a thought provoking storyline and surprising plot twist then do not watch this because this movie isnt intended for that purpose. And if you rate it low because of the aforementioned then you sir(or ma'am) or a stuck up snob and a douche bag because everything isnt meant to be thought provoking....would you go see a movie meant for drama but expect a comedy? Would you go see a thriller movie but expect it to be a musical? Of course not and if you do then you have problems.....oh and the ending was great....
