Review of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) by Lynne N — 27 Aug 2009
Normally a fan of everything 80s, I shock myself when I say I don't understand the hype surrounding this movie. It is, quintessentially, of its decade. But unlike other teen classics such as 'The Breakfast Club' I'm not convinced it's stood the test of time.
It's interesting to see the stars on the rise (has anyone else noticed how much young Judge Reinhold looks like Jason Segel?) but that's where the appeal ended for me. I didn't even like Penn's Spicoli character (oh the controversy) and I was positively offended by the off-hand way the film dealt with teenage abortion.
Sorry movie fans everywhere - won't be watching this one again!
