Review of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) by Michael R — 06 Feb 2012
Cameron Crowe must have hated everyone he went to high school with (minus the Rat character). Seriously, what is up with everyone being so one-dimensional and dull? Everything just felt hollow. What was this film about? A group of high school kids going about their year? Brad could have been a cool character, but instead they decide to be mean and make fun of him the entire film.
Stacy might be the most interesting character, but even after a while I was getting tired of her trying to find herself and stop screwing around. Rat likes you and he just made one awkward move. Unfortunately, Crowe didn't seem like it was important to follow Rat's character and let the audience fully understand why he left the night of their date.
I got the idea that he just didn't want to have sex after a while, but it could have been handled much better. Then what was all of this about Stacy's abortion? She just goes in, gets it, and then gets a ride home from her brother.
Could have been a great scene showing their relationship, but instead it ends too quickly. She never opens up to him, and he's okay with it. It just seems like they were trying to see how vulgar they could get at the time by talking about "climaxes" and how much a guy orgasms.
The best moment of the film was when the teacher comes to Spicoli's house and makes him give him back the time he wasted. But really, I don't see how this film is still talked about. Let's put it in history and forget about it.
I guess we can't just because Spicoli makes us giggle a bit.
