Review of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) by Rocknblues 8 — 20 Oct 2009
Due to all the recent raunchy high school comedies, this film has received a lot of backlash in recent years. I know it doesn't fit in with the younger crowd the way Super Bad and American Pie does, but it delivers good AND FUN performances by entire cast. You get to see Penn in one of his rare comedy performances. Phoebe Cates is hot of course, and Jennifer Jason Leigh is the hot young girl next door that anchors the films emotional weight. I thought Judge Reinhold was a bit too old and adult like for his role, but that's my only complaint.
It's dated by today's standards, but I love it. Even though I wasn't a high schooler in the 80's, I enjoy the characters and the soundtrack. It's also cool to watch high school films that were from a more happier time. I must say that I'm glad I got out of high school before the EMO and suicidal nuts took over.
