My movie guide called Sixteen Candles a "fast" comedy but that term should be used for this movie instead. Lots of characters in this one, and the movie paints the teenagers in a realistic light, save for Spicoli, who had the nerve to get a pizza delivered to his class.
But that was pretty cool what he did. The only time "I don't know" doesn't apply to this dude is when he ponders about what to get on his pizza.
