Review of Fast Food Nation (2006) by Sugeiny T — 13 Jun 2008
This movie is much better than other movies of its type (remember Thank You for Smoking? ugh!). Its incredibly well acted, well thought out, raw and complex like a movie should be. Though disgusting at times it was completely justified, for it was a message they were trying to send and it was that message that got through.
My favorite performances were those of Ethan Hawke, Greg Kinnear, Ashley Johnsson and obviously, Paul Dano! Ana Claudia Talancón was really good as well, and as much as Wilmer Valderrama annoys me I have to say that he was quite good here.
This movie treats 2 major social aspects, the dependency we have have towards junk food and the way immigrants have it so hard in USA. Both aspects were shown in crude ways and the movie managed to get across a concience message without judging and patronizing how fucked up everything is.
Though it would have been nice to have a closure and happy ending, I am aware it was impossible to do so because part of the message was precisely the fact that nothing ends and unless something's globaly done everything will continue.
Very well done, well constructed, definitely an A movie.
