Review of Fast, Cheap & Out of Control (1997) by Oakley A — 02 Dec 2007
Like the recurrent image of a clown chased by a skeleton, this documentary reveals human beings in all their creativity, obsessiveness, selfishness and impermanence. But by allowing these men to express themselve on camera, Errol Morris (with his usual deadpan, non-judgemental interviewer's perspective) also makes them suddenly closer to everyone who sees this film.
..and ensures that a portion of them will live on as long as the film itself exists. Could this be as close to a collective-consciousness vision of Heaven as Earthly life allows?
