Review of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) by Thatdanner — 07 Aug 2019
This might just be the best of the Fast and Furious films (which is not saying a lot). However, this one manages to blend humour, action and heart in a way that none of its predecessors could. Fun cameos from Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds provide some funny moments, but most importantly the chemistry between the two leads (technically three) is very enjoyable.
It really looks like the actors are having fun, not just for the movie. The dialogue between the leads is laugh out loud funny at times. The action of the movie is also very outlandish, but it's part of the fun.
It's hard to take the movie seriously, but the heart is definitely there. I feel like a better villain than Idris Elba could've been chosen. Elba does great in his role but he's just too likable to be a villain, I never feel truly scared or on edge.
Also, the movie is plain predictable, from the start. Aside from its flaws, the movie was very well done and I hope they put the Fast and Furious series to rest and begin making more Hobbs and Shaw.
