Review of Fast & Furious 6 (2013) by Ben V — 30 Jul 2014
If going by the theory that Tokyo Drift never happened, I have always been a huge fan of the Fast series... Until now... When Justin Lin decided to do a hybrid reboot of the 4th film, a breath of fresh air was felt by all who enjoy these movies.
.. All that air however has been deflated by the 6th installment... Can you say jump the shark? They basically took the formula of the 5th film (physics don't exist, use real car stunts with some smooth CGI mixed in there to keep you guessing, sprinkle in some 80s tough guy lines, add a dash of crazy fight scenes) and quadrupled it.
.. Which took it from very fun unrealistic Summer movie to complete utter obnoxiousness... I don't care that they try to ground you with the whole all the good guys are family aspect... When Dwayne Johnson is in a fight scene with someone else and then throws that person 5 feet into the air like he's Superman, that's when it completely takes me out of film.
.. And while I won't spoil it, that final action sequence... I did not know that a 25 mile long airstrip existed... Semi recommended for my loyalty for the series, but overall really not good and quite disappointing.
