Review of Fast & Furious (2009) by Dov D — 27 Dec 2013
They say that it's always darkest just before the dawn, and they're right when it comes to Justin Lin's involvement in the Fast & Furious franchise... The absurdly named Fast & Furious is a tale of revenge, bad cops, cars, revenge, speed, action, and more revenge.
Thankfully, they brought Vin Diesel and Paul Walker back together, but unfortunately, that's where the praise is going to end... The script is one dimensional and poorly crafted, containing way to much action and way to little plot.
.. This is a movie made for dumb people, by dumb people.. The story arch does make Diesel and Walker's characters finally understand and respect each other, which turns out to be an incredible thing (see Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6).
Bottom line, though better than 2 Fast 2 Furious, unless you are a huge fan of this series or are a popcorn flick fanatic, you're not going to like this movie.. But after finally seeing the fifth and sixth fast film, I have to recommend enduring this movie solely to fully understand the next two.
.. You absolutely have to watch all six movies in order though... They may not seem to be that related, but they all come together by the sixth film.
