Review of Farmingville (2004) by Jackie S — 01 Aug 2008
Inconclusive, like documentaries are. It was interesting how radical the immigrant opposition became over time. At first, white folks were responding to legitimate concerns about overcrowding and loitering. But, when they got in contact with national groups, they started freaking out at the principle of Latino people in town.
Best feel-good moment: when the day-laborer community organizes a soccer tournament to unite workers.
