Review of Fargo (1996) by D/Mac M — 28 Apr 2014
This is moviemaking at its best. This is the film that should have won the academy award for the Coen bros. No disrespect at all to No Country for Old Men, but this film boasts a once in a lifetime performance from just about everybody in it, subtle, yet perfect direction, excellent dialogue, and real, believable characters, doing inhumane things.
One of the ten best movies of the 90's. One of the five best movies actually, and ranks with the wonderful Chinatown as one of the best noirs ever made. Truly a cinematic masterpiece. Not to mention, it is only an hour and a half long.
In a day and age where every movie seems to be 3 hrs plus, its refeshing to get such a short movie that packs such a punch. Perhaps the Coens can teach some of these vaunted modern directors how to edit effectively.
