Only the Coens could portray an "enjoy the little things in life" character so non-obnoxiously and so convincingly, and only the Coens could do so while telling a pitch black comedic story that tackles the harmfulness of greed in such a simultaneously violent and witty way.

"Fargo" is the perfect story for Joel and Ethan Coen to tell; no one else but them can balance genres as well as this, nor do I think anyone but Frances McDormand could pull a performance so endearing and immortal while playing a character that's so restrained and sincere.

This is a perfect film without a hint of excess or meaninglessness, and its restraint from too much expository dialogue actually only improves things. We see these elements in most of the Coen brothers' movies, but this is their masterpiece.
