Review of Fargo (1952) by Johnathon W — 11 Apr 2014
Brilliant crime film done in only the way the Coen brothers could do it, with a right blend of humor & thrills. The cast, as usual with most of their films is superb, with McDormand the standout as the pregnant, mild-mannered sheriff who possesses a keen intelligence.
Macy is equally superb as a man who is not evil but whose actions lead to horrible consequences to everyone involved. Behind the camera, the Coen brothers craft a quirkly but realistic tale (helped immensely by Roger Deakins gorgeous cinematography) as the plot slowly unfolds, with each mistake in the supposed 'perfect' crime leads to more pain & death, and the cops closing in (as is the case with most real crimes).
One of the finest films by the Coen brothers, which automatically makes it one of the best in recent decades.
