Review of Fargo (1952) by Daniel V — 14 Sep 2014
The Cohen Brothers first major box office hit. Critics loved them and they had created a small cult following with their dark comedy, zany characters and unique storytelling style. As always, music is an important part of their movies whether it be a song placement or just that right memorable instrumental piece that fits the scene so well, you can close your eyes and remember the scene vividly.
Fargo is something they know well, crimes gone bumbling array. Violent at times, hilarious most of the time. I can't help but love Frances McDormand in most roles but Margie is one of the best. William H Macy is also great in this flick.
Somehow, even though he is a very flawed human being on the point of almost being evil, you can't help but root for the man who pays men to kidnap his wife and in doing so they end up going on a murdering spree in this sleepy little town.
The movie earned 7 Academy nominations including best picture and won 2, Frances McDormand and best Screenplay for the Cohens. Fargo is one of the best movies of the 90's and will definitely be on this dude's top 100, if I ever get around to making it.
