Review of Fargo (1952) by Sky P — 03 Oct 2014
For all the great critical reception it got, I was really surprised when Fargo started to bore me. No sense of real excitement, the Cohen Bros. weird humor comes off as simple-minded, going along the lines of "Ha ha, this person talks funny!" or "Ha ha, Steve Buscemi looks funny!" I suppose that the style of the Cohens is what makes this movie what it is, and no doubt, completely carries the film, but also brings it down.
When you have a bland plot with two dimensional characters, in a bleak setting with simple-minded humor, adding more simplicity (oxymoron?) doesn't really help the film, and yet that's the only thing the film has going for it.
Fargo disappointed me.
