Review of Farewell, My Queen (2012) by Jc E — 29 Jan 2013
So, this was a new one for me. Movies are the place where writers go to revise history. Oliver Stone tried to change history to match his agenda with 'Alexander' and 'W.", while Quentin Tarantino just upended everything about history with 'Inglorious Basterds'.
However, like so many films before it, this flick takes a historical figure and tries to make rumors a compelling screenplay. Did Marie Antoinette have lesbian tendencies? Well, she was French, so nothing is really off the table.
However, while this story takes a less titillating approach to this rumor, it still never blossoms into an absorbing story. Instead it just plays out like a soap opera set against the impeding French Revolution.
That's not to say that it's not moderately well acted with ladies like Lea Seydoux (Midnight in Paris) and Diane Kruger (Unknown), but it's really not that memorable.
