Review of Farewell, My Queen (2012) by Matthew F. J — 26 Mar 2012
Interesting concept, revisiting History through the eyes of a simple Queen's reader! This film really captures what chaos & madness it must have been to live in Versailles at the time, everyone is talking but no one really knows what's happening! Dozens of maids & servants are buzzing around to serve the high society of the time, Versailles seems like a crowded, mad, eclectic place where everyone is trying to get pieces of the cake! Even though this film is interesting on some levels, it feels really slow & quite airy at times! The diector seems to be interested in small details, the shoes, the food, the drinks, the attitudes of his characters more than their dialogues! It's a good film but really not an unforgetable one! Sofia coppola did something really good with her Marie antoinette a few years ago, she dusted it up & made it into a teenage rock star.
With this new version of the story condensed on only 4 days , we watch something serious and quite dramatic, even i'd say stern!
