Review of Farewell My Concubine (1993) by S. G — 08 Aug 2006
I watched this movie at the recommendation of a friend and fell inlove with it instantly. The image is spectacular, the story heartbreaking. The movie depicts the first half of the 20th century chinese culture very vividly.
The story is one of love and friendship, and eventualy betrayal, but not a typical one. It is interesting to see the way the three main characters connect to eachother, and the reports they establish.
All in all, a truely wonderful film, beautifully filmed, acted and directed. Anyone with some appreciation for Asian cinema, or quality movie-making should watch it.
