This film opened my eyes to not only the intricacies of China's twentieth century turmoil and the seedy underbelly of Chinese opera, but also to the amazing talents of Leslie Cheung and Li Gong. This remains my favorite movie for its palpable misery and artistic emphasis on the reality of relations in any time.
