A timeless movie about arts struggling in politics, and artists' struggle in fate. For those who are capable of reading Chinese, I recommend the book of the same title. It gives the reader a more in-depth understanding towards China history at the time, as well as lots of description on character's inner thoughts which can only be conveyed subtly on screen.
