Review of Farce of the Penguins (2006) by Alan G — 16 Feb 2008
The most impressive aspect of this film was how incredibly un-funny it managed to be. I mean, the premise was great! You take a bunch of stock-footage of penguins, have Samuel L Jackson narrate it, add celebrity voices as the penguins, and comedy will surely ensue! I literally cannot think of a better example of a movie that had such potential and failed so miserably.
It was as if Bob Saget thought that the mere concept of this film, along with the occasional penis or anal sex joke would be enough to make this film hilarious. Sorry bud, but you actually do need to have jokes, gags, or clever little bits in a film in order to make people laugh.
"Farce of the Penguins" lacked all of the above. I hate it when people say "This film was such crap, even I could have done it better!" Well... I hate to say it... but this film was such crap, that yes, even I could have done it better.
At least I might have laughed once or twice that way.
