Review of Farce of the Penguins (2006) by Antonio C — 31 Mar 2008
I give the concept behind this three stars, and the execution just barely attains what I believe were the filmmakers' objectives. Obviously, Bob Saget probably isn't the first person that comes to mind when you think of the great comedians working today. He still somehow managed to take a clever idea and deliver something relatively entertaining.
In the right hands, this could have been a hilarious parody, but it still has its moments. The low-brow humor will wear thin fast for anyone seeking smart comedy, but I'm sure anybody coming into this will not be expecting such a thing. I have to say Tracy Morgan is great in this, and Lewis Black isn't bad either. It's kind of a fun exercise in itself just identifying actors' voices along the way.
The story is simple, but it turns out to work in the end. Adjust your expectation level low and you will hopefully be pleasantly surprised at times.
