Review of Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) by Iris L — 05 Jun 2015
Quite good, and an interesting take on the material. I would have never cast Carey Mulligan as Bathsheba Everdine, but if she fails to match Hardy's heroine on the page, she plays this update exquisitely, and she has good chemistry with her supporting cast.
The direction and cinematography are beautiful here, solid and well done but unobtrusive. They do a lot with natural light, and it does a good job of capturing the period.
