Review of Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) by Jennifer D — 08 Jun 2015
I am ashamed to admit I never got around to reading the classic Far From The Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. This film adaptation is lush, sweeping, and romantic. A real and deep romance, not the kind of tussle in the sheets that passes for romance in most contemporary movies.
The film centers around a fiercely independent woman that is strikingly relatable even in the 21st century. Beautifully filmed, well acted, and decently paced for a period piece. Carey Mulligan is particularly impressive as the headstrong heroine. I bet it gets one or two Oscar nods. If you like period pieces & classic literature, you will eat this one up.
