Review of Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) by Brian O — 29 Aug 2015
The picture is exquisite and the incident with the sheep and the cliff scene is adequately traumatising. To me it lacks the breath and depth of the novel, and the sense of time past and experience gained, which is not really conveyed (despite what Vinterberg seems to think), by the close-up of a snail on the grass or apples in a tree.
