Review of Far from Heaven (2002) by Timothy B — 15 Jun 2007
A remarkable movie about the cruelties of society. Todd Haynes' best film to date, which is saying a lot. Julianne Moore, Dennis Quaid, Dennis Haysbert (pre-Insurance Company spokesman) and Patricia Clarkson are all mind-blowingly good.
For those who idiotically insist that the 1950's were a better, more innocent time, I urge them to see this film and realize how the cruelties of racism, homophobia, and misogyny made life a living hell for so many Americans.
Things are bad now, but they were astronomically worse then.
