Review of Far from Heaven (2002) by Emilie B — 23 Aug 2007
I must not have good taste in movies, if this huge chunk of burning crap gets 4 Academy Award Nominations. I will agree with the fact that Julianne Moore did an unbelievable job portraying "Suzie Homemaker" in the 50's, accepting all dramatic changes that affect her world, and yet.
.. her emotions are similar to a Stepford Wife, and as the movie progresses, she develops her own way of thinking towards her husband, and racial boundaries are pushed as she attempted to befriend the African American gardener.
Confused throughout the movie trying to sweep the quirks under the carpet, she holds her performance to a "T". But, it drags, with the rest of the cast. Dennis Quaid is vaguely seen, as we are to assume that he doing a late-night at the office.
The dramatic points are made very clear, with the help of the instrumental backgrounds. The movie's title was very appropiate, however, it falls short, in my eyes, of being set apart from other movies that focus on homosexuality and racial tensions in the 50's.
Seemed like they mixed Pleasantville & Stepford Wives.
