Todd Haynes' clever homage to Douglas Sirk's melodramas of the 1950s. Not simply a pastiche but takes the Sirk formula one step further with a more explicit treatment of the continually relevant issues of race and sexuality.
Beautifully filmed and Julianne Moore has never been better.
