Review of Far from Heaven (2002) by Masorad ( — 02 Apr 2008
Haynes' homage to Sirk, but instead of a feminized Rock Hudson character as in "All That Heaven Allows" or "Written on the Wind" we get a gay Dennis Quaid. I guess that 'far from heaven'='hell,' but Haynes depicts his uptight 50s setting as anything but.
This is a beautiful film: its use of colour, lighting, costume and set design is flawless. Had as much thought been given to the story, we might have had a perfect film.
