Review of Far from Heaven (2002) by Elgan D — 16 May 2009
A cracking, lavish, loving pastiche of the Hollywood melodramas of the 1950s. Everything is pitched perfectly to mimic that era, from the wonderfully clichéd dialogue to the costumes and performances.
Sadly, these excelling qualities also limit the film, as it remains largely a wonderful pastiche, and doesn't on the whole push any further. Moore, Quaid and Haysbert all put in brilliant performances, and the colour palettes are simply gorgeous.
