Review of Far from Heaven (2002) by Richard C — 03 Oct 2012
Todd Haynes's wonderful homage to the melodramas of Douglas Sirk stands as a combination of great acting, writing and direction that also shows Todd Haynes as a director whose gamble at designing a film in the same style as the great Sirk clearly pays off in spades.
Julianne Moore, Dennis Haysbert and Dennis Quaid are all splendid and the brilliant recreation of 1950's American suburbia is one that not only gives respect to the man whose work had clearly inspired this, but plays as a film that can stand on its own.
This is a film that derves more than one viewing and is of such enjoyment that it makes us hope that there can be more Douglas Sirk-style films of this kind in the future.
