Review of Far from Heaven (2002) by Matt M — 16 Feb 2013
Set in the American age of consensus of the fifties, a seemingly happy and normal household is rocked by a wife discovering her husband's homosexuality. Provocative but never tasteless nor insincere, Far From Heaven even feels a little important in its use of theme and photography.
It also represents an interesting revisiting of the soap opera film which was made famous by the likes of Douglas Sirk, from whom Todd Haynes draws inspiration.
