Review of Fantastic Planet (1973) by Sherwin L — 05 Dec 2009
They don't make them like this anymore and they didn't really even make them like this back then. It's premodern postmodern in the tradition of "weird for the sake of weird", but it nonetheless manages to hold together pretty well.
It's just coherent enough to be enjoyable even in a drug-free environment. It won't teach you anything valuable, but watching it won't make you stupider. either; and in the world of film that puts it a cut above the rest.
