Review of Fantastic Planet (1973) by Eric L — 24 May 2011
Where is Barry Bostwick? I see nor hear no Barry Bostwick, yet there is in the cast list, or rather is the cast list apparently. Bizarre, and I mean BIZARRE.
In any case this is a thoroughly surreal and lysergic movie, that can at times be slightly unsettling. The animation is difficult to describe, especially to someone who hasn't seen this or any of La Loux's other work. The movie clearly has, or would like you to believe it has something important to say about something. Butt those philosophical ambitions are at best only half realized. Leaving you with a visually engrossing movie, with a plot that while interesting also seems anti-climatic if not unfinished.
